WWA
THE TWISTED MICROPHONE
By Jeff Docherty, [doc@wrestling-online.com]
Come close my faithful. The DocMan is about to speak to you once again, through
the Twisted Microphone.
Now I was going to write an account of my amazing trip to WWF Axxess, Wrestlemania
X8, Raw, and SmackDown but everyone else did it first and it would just bore
you. So instead, I decided to wait and write on something a little more interesting
to you, my cherished fans.
So.....who watched WWA Eruption last night on Pay Per View? Ok....before all
12 of you raise your hands, allow me to give my thoughts on the WWA's latest
"offering" or should I say "sacrifice". Ouch! Now I know
there will be those out there who loved it but I do back up all of my opinions
with FACTS so if you write to me with your opinions, please do me the same courtesy
and back up your thoughts with facts. And no...."Because you suck!"
and "because Buff Bagwell Rules!" do NOT count as valid facts!
Ahhhh....where to start on the Eruption PPV? Firstly..can't the WWA buy more
than ONE piece of generic music? They used the same piece over and over again
for every video hilite package last night. And then to top it off...they used
the same music as Sabu's entrance music. Sad....really sad.
Secondly....for most of the pay per view, faintly in the background of the audio,
you could hear the commands that were being fed into the referees earpiece.
I heard times, moves coming up, and even finishes 30 seconds before they happened.
Sad.....really sad.
Jeremy Borash and Disco Inferno as commentators? PLEASE! These two couldn't
carry my lunch, much less the commentary for an entire pay per view event. Disco
Inferno's constant moronic remarks and Borash's consistent parade of screw ups
were unbearable. The ONLY thing WWA did right with the broadcast team this time
was to get rid of that loser Mark Madden this time around! Sad.....very very
sad.
The production was horrible. From poor audio quality to lame pyrotechnic effects
to horrible organization, this show lacked any kind of organization from the
word go. Sad....extremely sad.
The Ring Announcer. What the Hell were the WWA thinking when they hired this
man? He screws up more than Lillian Garcia ever thought of screwing up. Granted,
he has probably never done that sort of thing and especially not at s pay per
view but that is why we hire seasoned professionals. If you want to make your
show look like you spent more than five minutes planning it, hire professional
staff! Sad....terribly, horribly sad!
The Commissioner. Ok...correct me if I am wrong but last two Pay per views,
we had Bret Hart as the die hard commissioner of the WWA. Last night, with no
explaination whatsoever, Bret Hart is out and Sid is in. If you are going to
make changes, at
> >least explain to the fans why. Please do not insult our intelligence
by hoping we won't notice.
Jeremy Borash.....OK....I know I mentioned him before but if he said "World
Wrestling AllStars" once last night, he saidit a million times. He doesn't
know the letters WWA because everytime WWA would have sufficed, he had to say
World Wrestling Allstars. Listen Jeremy, cramming the name of the company down
our throats every five seconds will not make us like the company any better,
it will just make you look like more of a weiner than we already know you are!
Sad.....just really
sad.
Promoting wrestlers who do not appear. For two consecutive ppv's, the WWA has
promoted Randy Savage's return. The Revolution PPV even had him promoted up
til showtime when they knew he would not be there. Last night, they had not
promoted him on the show during their pre-taped infomercials but the DirecTV
description listed Scott Steiner and Randy
Savage as the participants. DirecTV had to get Savage's name from someone at
WWA. Also, the promoted the "Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett and he was on
a lame pre-taped promo at the very beginning and that was it. Nothing more.
If the WWA wants to keep fans watching, they better start delivering on promises.
Fans get very annoyed very fast when they are lied to. Please stop lying to
us and deliver what you promise.
I visited the WWA Website today and their message board is plastered with horrible
reviews of the fed and the PPV.
Now there are a lot more things I could list as being horribly wrong with the
WWA but I will stop here for now. And as with most things, there IS a positive
side to all of this negative.
The wrestlers and matches. I have to say, the talent on last night's card gave
it their all and put on tremendous matches. You are all to be commended. You
saved a very mundane and horrible pay per view....except for one....Buff Bagwell.
I'm sorry. I always liked Buff and I really thought he was a great talent but
it seems now that all he does is go through the motions. Last night had to be
the worst display of wrestling I have ever seen Buff produce. He was slower
than Hulk Hogan with a broken rib. He fell in slow motion and the only time
he showed signs of life was when he was jaw jacking with the Referee. Other
than Buff, the wrestling was tremendous and the matches were phenomenal. AJ
Syles vs Jerry Lynn was a classic for the ages and Sabu vs Devon Storm was incredible.
The rest of the matches were excellent and I thank each of you for the effort
you put into saving this pay per view.
I would love to see your opinions and feedback on these points. After all, it
has to be the fans who voice their opinions to make the WWA better. Heaven knows,
the WWA is doing nothing to make it bearable.
As always, I welcome your opinions and look forward to hearing from you. Coming
Soon: WWF Survivor!
Remember...don't hit your friends with chairs.....put 'em through a table!!!!
