Maroubra : Hot bed for Cafe's in the East

Article by Greg Tingle, reporter and resident of Maroubra

Coffee anyone?

Maroubra beach has firmly established itself as a haven for coffee connoisseurs in the eastern suburbs.

Every weekend the cafes and their staff, feel the heat, as both locals and visitors head for the cafes. Maroubra certainly has a cafe to suite all tastes.

Even on weekdays the cafes are experiencing healthy trade.

In McKeon Street there are 6 cafes alone. It's starting to resemble King Street, Newtown or Crown Street, Surry Hills, with all of the positive attributes.

Maroubra's most established cafe, The Pool Cafe, is around the corner in Marine Parade, overlooking the famous landmark, Maroubra Rockpool, and further down the street, Pavilion Cafe is right on the beach, and then there is Marine Cafe, conveniently located on the corner of McKeon Street and Marine Parade.

It is well acknowledged that the Maroubra Skatepark has brought extra business to the area.

Is caffeine good for you? Well, there are a lot of worse things in the world. Coffee stimulates the mind.

Traditional breakfasts found at these cafe's, like bacon and eggs with wholemeal toast, covered in vegemite with mushrooms are good for you. Furthermore, most cafes offer soy, skim coffee and de-caff alternatives, for the health conscious. A wide variety of tea's are also available, with herb tea's being extremely popular.

What possessed me to write and article about cafe's? I am a self-confessed caffeine addict (not the "hard stuff"). When I worked for Telstra, as Business Development Manager, I managed half a dozen clients in the coffee brewing industry. My customers were most generous on client visits, and it kind of snowballed.

"Will this article cost us anything"? many cafe owners asked me, whilst researching this story. "No, just a cup of coffee when I pass by next time", I cheerfully replied.

Well, I've got another front-page news story to write, better visit some of the local cafe's to pick up some scuttlebug, while I get another dose of Maroubra caffeine.
