Jeff Jarrett

The WWF Years

WWF Titles Held: WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight (1995, 1995, 1995, 1999, 1999, 1999), WWF European Heavyweight (1999), WWF World Tag Team (1999)

Throughout his WWF tenures, one thing has remained the same about Jeff Jarrett, he is a winner. Shortly after making his World Wrestling Federation debut, Jarrett was a top contender. Soon Double J had held the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship three times. After leaving the WWF in early 1996, Jarrett returned in later 1997, equipped with the same attitude that made him great. When Jarrett left the WWF again in 1999, he held the record for reigns as WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion.

Double J Jeff Jarrett made his first appearance on WWF television in the mid 90's. He appeared in promotional clips, claiming he was going to use the WWF as a stepping stone to the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame. When he finally appeared in the ring, Jarrett backed up his talk, quickly defeating top stars Lex Luger, Mabel, and others.

In 1994, Jeff Jarrett hired a man to carry his bags and help him win matches. The Roadie did everything for Jarrett, and was instrumental many of Jarrett's key victories. At the 1995 Royal Rumble, Jeff Jarrett took on Razor Ramon with the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship at stake. Many wrote Jarrett off, but Jarrett was able to out smart Ramon, and won with outside help from the Roadie.

As champion, Jeff Jarrett only grew cockier. The champion quieted the critics who said he was a fluke. In March, Jeff Jarrett defended the title against the legendary Bob Backlund on WWF Sunday Night Slam. However, Double J's growing cockiness began to get the best of him.

In April on WWF Action Zone, Jeff Jarrett overlooked Bob "Spark Plugg" Holly. At one point in the match, it looked as if Jarrett would be the victor, but another referee made it clear that Holly had his foot on the rope, and the match was restarted. Then, Holly gained a pinfall, but Jarrett's foot was on the rope. Backstage after the match, WWF announcer Raymond Rougeau announced that WWF President Jack Tunney was declaring the title vacant, ordering a rematch. In the rematch, Jeff Jarrett was able to claim his second title reign.

Less than one month after his title exchange with Bob Holly, Jarrett lost the title to Razor Ramon at a live event in Montreal. However, Jarrett quickly regained his title two days later in Trois Rivieres. The July 1995 In Your House in Nashville, Tennessee, was going to be a big night for Jarrett. He finally got a chance to prove he was no fluke in the ring by defending his title against Shawn Michaels, and that he could sing. During the show Jeff Jarrett apparently sung "With My Baby Tonight". Later that night, a trip by the Roadie backfired on Jarrett, and Michaels won the title. Jarrett openly blamed the Roadie for the loss, and the two were scheduled to meet at the 1995 SummerSlam, but both men left the WWF. In 1996, when the Roadie returned to the WWF, he revealed that it was not Jarrett, but he, who sung "With My Baby Tonight".

In late 1995, Jeff Jarrett returned to the WWF, quickly starting a feud with Ahmed Johnson. Jarrett smashed a record over the head of Johnson, leading to a match at the 1996 Royal Rumble. At the Royal Rumble, Jarrett lost the match via disqualification, after smashing Johnson with a guitar. Soon after that night, Jarrett once again left the WWF.

In late 1997 Jarrett returned again. He came out on television, ripping the WWF for putting him on as Double J, rather than letting his talent speak for itself. After weeks of refusing to wrestle low caliber wrestlers, Jarrett met the Undertaker at WWF In Your House: D-Generation X. Jarrett won the match, via disqualification. In the following weeks, Jarrett got cheap victories over Vader and others.

In early 1998 on WWF Raw Is War, Jeff Jarrett faced off against Barry Windham. Jim Cornette announced it was for the vacant NWA North American Heavyweight Championship. Jarrett won the match with the help of Cornette. Jarrett joined Cornette, who formed a stable of NWA wrestlers, wrestling on WWF television. Weeks after his title victory, Jarrett defended his title against Windham's tag team partner, Blackjack Bradshaw. With Windham turning on Bradshaw, Jarrett retained his title.

Jeff Jarrett's partnership with Jim Cornette would be shortlived. During a WWF European Heavyweight Championship match against Owen Hart, Cornette accidentally nailed Jarrett with a tennis racket, causing him to lose the match. After the match, Jarrett parted ways with Cornette, vacating the NWA North American Heavyweight Championship.

Jarrett returned to Double J, and took on Tennessee Lee as his manager. Jarrett was quickly successful over top stars Tom Brandi, Flash Funk, Steve Blackman and others. Double J was once again arrogant and flamboyant, often coming to ringside on a horse. Soon Tennesse Lee added Southern Justice - Dennis Knight & Mark Canterbury to the group. After a losing streak, Jarrett grew tired of Tennesseee, and he and Southern Justice turned on Lee.

Jeff Jarrett, no longer Double J, got in a feud with X-Pac. During one of X-Pac's matches, Jarrett cut X-Pac's hair. The two met in a hair vs. hair match, with X-Pac gaining revenge and cutting Jarrett's long locks. Jarrett took on a new attitude, and was soon joined by Debra McMichael.

Soon Jeff Jarrett was entangled in a feud with Steve Blackman and Goldust. Debra helped Jarrett gain victories over Blackman and Goldust by showing a little flesh. Goldust challenged Jarrett to a striptease match, if Jarrett won Goldust would strip, but if Goldust won, Debra would strip. With the use of a guitar, Jarrett apparently won the match, but WWF Commissioner Shawn Michaels reversed the decision. Before McMichael could take it all off, the Blue Blazer stepped in and covered her up.

Jarrett was joined in his feud with Blackman and Goldust by the Blue Blazer. Later, Blackman revealed that the Blue Blazer was in fact Owen Hart, who claimed to have retired. During a match involving the Blue Blazer, Hart appeared at ringside, and it was revealed that Jarrett was the Blazer.

Over the next several weeks, Jarrett and Hart began teaming more often. With help from Debra, they claimed victories over Steve Blackman & Goldust, Gangrel & Edge, and WWF World Tag Team Champions Big Boss Man & Ken Shamrock. Jarrett and Hart faced the New Age Outlaws - Badd Ass Billy Gunn & Road Dog Jesse James, with the winners getting a title shot. With help from Debra, Hart and Jarrett became the number one contenders.

On WWF Raw Is War, Jeff Jarrett & Owen Hart took on the Big Boss Man & Ken Shamrock with the WWF World Tag Team Championship on the line. Shamrock and the Boss Man had taken salt peter to combat the beauty of Debra. Thanks to the Blue Blazer, Jarrett and Hart became WWF World Tag Team Champions. They made their first pay-per-view title defense against D-Lo Brown & Mark Henry. Jarrett and Hart hit Henry's injured leg with a guitar, allowing them to retain the titles.

The next night, Jarrett teamed with Debra to face Brown and his new valet Ivory. The match ended in a disqualification, but after the match Debra nailed Ivory with a guitar. With no top opponents for Jarrett and Hart, a battle royal was made, with the last two to team against Jarrett and Hart at WrestleMania XV. The winners were D-Lo Brown and Test. Brown and Test showed too little teamwork, and were no match for the champs.

On an edition of WWF Sunday Night Heat, Jarrett and Hart made an open challenge. Kane answered the challenge all by himself, and nearly won the match, before Jarrett was disqualified for using his guitar. With Hart and Jarrett attacking Kane, X-Pac made the save. The next night on WWF Raw Is War, Kane and X-Pac won the WWF World Tag Team Championship.

With their tag team championship reign over, Jeff and Owen returned their focus mainly on singles competition. Owen once again became the Blue Blazer, and Jeff Jarrett and Debra raged a bitter feud with Val Venis. Soon Jarrett and the Blazer were again on the same page, as the Blazer went after Val's friend the Godfather. Unfortunately, Owen Hart the Blue Blazer died tragically as he was scheduled to take on the Godfather.

The night following Owen Hart's death Jarrett dedicated his match against Test in his friend's honor. Jeff Jarrett pulled out the victory with Hart's finishing move, the sharpshooter. Several days later, Jeff Jarrett defeated the Godfather for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship, the title Owen Hart may have won had he not died.

During Jeff Jarrett's WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship reign, Double J began referring to himself as the Greatest Intercontinental Champion Of All-Time. Throughout Jarrett's reign, it was Debra that allowed Jeff to retain the title. On an edition of WWF Sunday Night Heat, Jarrett lost to Test. But Debra charmed the referee into reversing the decision in favor of Jarrett. Jarrett continued to dominate as champion, defending the title against Christian, the Blue Meanie, Chaz and many others.

Just one night before a scheduled title match with Edge at WWF Fully Loaded, Jarrett was supposed to take on Ken Shamrock for the title. To Jeff's surprise, hometown hero Edge took Shamrock's place in the match. Edge went onto win the title in front of the Canadian crowd. However the next night, Jarrett regained the title after Gangrel interfered, becoming the first man to win the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship five times. Jarrett rollercoaster ride didn't end there.

The night following his fifth title victory, Jarrett called actor Ben Stiller into the ring. Jarrett asked Stiller who his favorite superstar was. Stiller replied with the puppies, referring to Debra's chest, which angered Jarrett. Jarrett attacked Stiller, who was rescued by D-Lo Brown. Brown's actions caused Jarrett to demand a title for title match, Jarrett's WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship versus Brown's WWF European Heavyweight Championship. After Debra entered the ring with both titles, Brown nailed Jarrett with one of the belts. Brown covered up for the victory, winning away Jarrett's title. Afterwards, Jarrett placed the blame on Debra.

Less than one month after losing the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship to D-Lo Brown, the two had a rematch with both belts on the line. Jarrett had an ace up his sleeve. Jarrett enlisted the help of Brown's friend Mark Henry. In the end, Jarrett held both belts. The following night Jarrett gave the WWF European Heavyweight Championship to Mark Henry, and revealed that he and Debra were always on good terms. Also joining Jarrett was Miss Kitty, who became Debra's assistant.

Several weeks later, Chyna was named number one contender to the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship, after signing an open contract that Jarrett laid out. Jarrett did not want to put his title on the line against a woman. Over the following weeks, Jarrett constantly badmouthed women, and attacked many of the opposite sex. His alpha male thinking led to the dismissal of both Debra and Miss Kitty. At Unforgiven, Jarrett retained the title by disqualification. Just days prior to their scheduled rematch (which Jarrett had made a good housekeeping match), Jarrett's contract expired and was not renewed after he had a dispute with Jim Ross. Despite that, Jarrett, being the man that he is, wrestled anyway. Chyna defeated him for the title, and Jarrett left the WWF.
