Before he became the star of his own popular show on MTV, Ozzy Osbourne reached legendary status after biting the head off of a bird on stage during a live concert. But according to Tazz, there’s no way Ozzy can compare to his best friend, Tommy Dreamer.
“He’s got a long way before he catches up to Tommy Dreamer,” Tazz told WWE.com. “Once people start seeing what Tommy Dreamer can eat … Tommy Dreamer will be much more famous that Ozzy Osbourne. If Tommy had been there when Ozzy bit the head off that bird, Tommy would have said to Ozzy, ‘OK. That’s pretty good. Now watch this.’ He would have taken the headless bird and probably licked the intestines out of it and smiled.”
Dreamer’s appetite for the bizarre came to light with his recent RAW segments that show him sharing a toothbrush with his dog, shaving his tongue, wolfing down human hair and quenching his thirst with a cool cup of toilet water.
“That’s just me trying to make people laugh,” Dreamer said. “Back in ECW, we’d have these late, long drives and we’d pull into rest stops and everyone would be tired. So I’d take it upon myself to try to get people to laugh.
“In ECW, we always used to tape our interviews after the shows because Paul Heyman liked to torture us because he doesn’t sleep. We’d be up until 4 a.m.. I’d do these things to try to bring up everyone’s spirits and get them to laugh.”
After spending years in ECW as Dreamer’s traveling partner, Tazz has seen more than his share of weirdness. “The stuff he’s doing on RAW, as far as eating people’s hair and drinking urinal water, is not surprising to me at all,” Tazz said. “The real Tommy Dreamer is now out in the public. People can see that he’s now come out of the closet and showing people the real qualities that he has. I think it’s great that Tommy and WWE can make money off the sick problem he’s had for a long time.”
Dreamer said the worst thing he’s ever eaten was a dead horseshoe crab he found on a beach and munched on as a dare. Tazz recalled stories of Dreamer devouring plastic soda straws and getting sick after hoarding raw tuna and an entire bowl of wasabi, the spicy Japanese horseradish.
“He’s known for that type of thing,” Tazz said. “He’ll eat stuff out of the garbage. At my wedding, which is obviously an extremely formal affair, I was extremely nervous because my wife didn’t know he has this sickness. I was hoping he didn’t have an attack and start jumping on the wedding cake screaming and singing ‘Hallelujah.’
“He’s always had this problem where the more he eats, the hungrier he gets,” Tazz said. “And it’s not just eating-wise. He’ll just hurt himself to get guys to laugh. He’s got a problem.”
What makes Dreamers antics all the more surprising to people that know him is the fact that the Innovator of Violence comes across as being so low-key. And although he may not enjoy all his stunts, he does them anyway just to prove that he can overcome his fears. For example, he used to be afraid of heights, but he went through with a scaffolding match in ECW to get over it. “The people that know me know how laid back I am,” Dreamer said. “I love getting a reaction out of people.”
According to Dreamer, there are more crazy things in the works. “The main thing we haven’t shown yet is the stuff where I’m just screwing with people,” he said.
Tazz thinks his friend’s new character will soon win over fans once they realize that the man stuffing himself with every weird concoction in sight isn’t acting.
“I noticed on the Internet people were saying, ‘What is WWE doing to Tommy Dreamer? Why are they doing this?’,” Tazz said. “From what I understand this is mostly Tommy’s idea. Tommy comes up with this stuff. He loves doing it. You’ve got to see the stuff they can’t air.”
