Diamond Dallas Page

Updates: Page retires from active wrestling in the WWE

Dallas Page has come a long way in this business. Many people wrote him off years ago, but Page is living proof that hard work and perseverance can pay off. Page is a multi time WCW Champion, and is married to the beautiful Kimberly. Lately, the rumor going the rounds is DDP may be WWF bound (I doubt it, especially after hearing his interview on WCW Monday Nitro, where he brought up the matter). I guess it's wait and see.

STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS By Diamond Dallas Page

Yo Cutters. What's up? REMEMBER ME? To quote Mark Twain: "The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated." Let me clear up all the rumors as I have in the past. Yeah, yeah I tried to get out but they pulled me back in.

Let's start at the beginning. The reason why you haven't heard from me for the last three months is because I needed to take a break and I really didn't know what I was going to do. Initially, I quit as part of the storyline and to rehab some injuries. Sometimes, art imitates life. In that time, I've rehabbed my body and worked out occasionally at Dusty Rhodes' wrestling school. Right now, I feel better than I ever have. As the weeks turned into months, Rich told me of so many rumors on the Net, but I couldn't respond because I just didn't know. I didn't know what I was doing or where I was going. I decided to do what was next to impossible for meto keep my mouth shut. It seemed like everyone was talking about my career, except me.

Recently, I saw an article on Scoopswrestling.com by Al Isaacs talking about my situation. He pretty much nailed it on the head. Basically, here's what happened. Over a month ago there was a rumor that WCW was going to buy out contracts at 100 cents on the dollar. That I had to follow up on that. The way I see it, I've pretty much accomplished everything that I can accomplish in WCW and I actually thought about moving on. If they were gonna buy me out, I was out of there. After all, I've won all the titles. I've been headlined the main event in Pay Per Views. I've had more success in WCW than I have ever dreamed possible, and I wanted to see if I could do it all over again in another federation. Henceforth (lol), I decided to explore my options. I explained the situation to Vince Russo and Brad Siegel. Brad is the President of WCW, TNT, TBS and two other Turner networks. On a personal note, is a helluva guy. I appreciate him taking the time out of his schedule to try to work this out.

I was given their permission to talk with Vince McMahon about the possibility of me joining the WWF. The first person I talked to was Jim Ross and we had a great conversation. I was looking forward to meeting both Jim Ross and Vince McMahon in person, but with the Viacom issue and the XFL, we were just never able to find the opportunity to get together. Despite reports I have seen online, I never got the opportunity to meet with or talk to Vince McMahon.

Coming into the September 25th show at the Nassau Coliseum, WCW decided they needed me back. As one person put it, we're making Page sh*t or get off the pot. At that point, I went to Brad Siegel and talked about my options. I was willing to take a release, even though I had no guarantee that the WWF would sign me, but I was not willing to walk away from all the money left on my contract. I spent a lot of years working for close to the minimum before I got a big money contract, which was in 1999. I feel I have earned the money for my work in 1996, and definitely in 1997 and 1998. In those years, I was working for less that 25% of the salary of the people that I was working with in the ring. All the while, my merchandise was flying off the shelves and I was doing tons of public appearances for WCW. That being said, Kimberly and I actually offered WCW a one-day special of 55 cents on the dollar to buy out our contracts. Yes, we would have walked away from close to a million dollars. WCW chose not to exercise this option. Enough about the past, let's talk about the future.

Pretty much, I will have to keep you posted on that now that I am back to the weekly e-mail and I will. I expect to come back sometime after the Halloween Havoc Pay Per View. No decision has been made about my role when I return to WCW, as of yet. My preference would be to pick up where we left off and to go after "Positively" Kanyon. I think that Chris and I could steal the show. Then again, I'm not the booker. So, what else have we been doing? Nothing much I redesigned the web site, did a movie with Cuba Gooding, Jr., learned yoga (yeah, I said yoga. Kim got me into yoga, and it will bust your ass the way we do it), worked with the Karl Malone Foundation, and a whole lot more. The new site will launch on October 13th . As for news on the other stuff, we'll keep you posted. As always, it's been your pleasure. Diamond Dallas Page.
