CTV1 Community TV Sydney

What is CTV1?

CTV1 is a community television station which was established by a group of local residents in the South Sydney Council Local government area in 1987. With the support of the Department of Housing and South Sydney Council CTV1 is currently in its 11th year of operation. The studio is situated in the basement of the McKell building in Redfern and operates live via a cable system in the Redfern area as well as acting a a program supplier to Channel 31 and Community Television stations nationally.

CTV1 operates as a volunteer, non-profit community organisation and is run by a management Committee which includes community representatives, local residents and an Operations Committee, consisting of program producers, directors and technical directors. Day to day goings on is overseen by the station Administrator. Over 100 members volunteer their time to help present and crew the five, 2-3 hour programs produced at the studio each week.

Operations Committee

The CTV1 operations committee meets on the 4th Monday of each month. The operations committee is made of the Producer, director and Technical Director (or nominated representatives) from each program. The operations committee is responsible for the maintenance of the studio and on-going programming responsibilities. Interested members of the station are also invited to attend and participate.

Management Committee

The CTV1 Management committee meets after the Operations Committee on the 4th Monday of each month. The Management Committee has a number of designated positions. The Management Committee is required to be made up of two (2) studio representatives, a minimum of three (3) local residents and four (4) community representatives. The Management Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Sponsorship

You or an organisation may like to support and / or sponsor the station or individual programs, possibly through the donation of a prize for a raffle, old video or office equipment etc, however, we are open to other options and CTV1 would credit individuals and organisations for any support they are willing to offer. Sponsorship deals can be negotiated upon request. CTV1 is able to offer on air promotions on relevant programs, web site links, Banner Ads, Logo displays, screening and production of promotional videos etc.

The Future

Through interacting with different communities and promotion of our service through Channel 31 we have a large increase of people and organisations wanting to participate. We have a number of new programs in the pipe line and many volunteers wishing to participate on both programming and administration.

CTV1 is currently looking at acquiring an office space so that we are able to offer volunteers the opportunity to gain experience in pre-production and administration. CTV1's aim is to seek funding to employ community artists to work more with people living in the South Sydney area, minority groups and community organisations.
So how can you get involved?

Do you have an event to promote?, Are you sending out a press release? Do you offer a community service?, Are you a performer? Want to do some cross promotion? Are you interested in becoming a television presenter?, Have some TV or office equipment you want to donate?, Want to learn to operate a camera, be a floor manager or audio mixer?, Do you have an idea - or just have something to say?
