Australian Wrestling: Articles published by Greg Tingle
Australians respect pro wrestling, and we recognize a good match / worker from a dud. Aussie love a bit of biffo. Just ask Phil Picasso http://www.cooldudesandhotbabes.com/picasso.html
We have vast talent from technical / shooter style. thru to the high flyer style, and our workers go at it in a pretty stiff fashion. Our story lines are believable, and not outlandish like many WWE ones. Mind you, we also have a great appreciation for the best stuff that WWE puts out, and we also are big on supporting "the underdog" - can I say "underdog / cattle dog" just to put an Aussie slant on things matey.
Most of the wresting cards are on the club circuit, like at RSL and footy clubs. Really awesome atmosphere at these clubs, and the fans half pissed, always provide interesting (sometimes X rated) commentary, and drown out the real announcers! Despite what many yanky wrassstling fans may have thought, we never did get into Outback Jack - he kinda sucked. He was actually and x copper (policeman), and he was a bit soft. Did not like to be hit around. (You would never guess that in a million years hey) : )
Aussies used to riot at the old Sydney Stadium and Melbourne's Festival Hall, and the "heat" was turned on so much. Old grannies and their canes and umbrellas used to take over ringside.
I must mention "The Balmain Tiger" George Barnes. He was the bump king from 1975-1985 approx. Man, could he land on the back on his head and neck, and he seemed to luv taking the piledriver the hardway. Being a truck driver on the Sydney waterfront, what else would you expect from the man. Truck driving on the waterfront should be a training ground to make our wrestlers legit tough.
In the words of the immortal Jack Little, how about that!
